Abstract

The Indonesian Democracy Index (IDI) of Kalimantan Timur is a composite indicator that shows the level of development of Democracy in Kalimantan Timur. The level of achievement is measured based on the implementation and development of three aspects of democracy, namely civil freedom (Civil Liberty), Political Rights (Political Rights) and Democratic Institutions (Institution of Democracy)

The IDI method uses 4 data sources, namely: (1) review of local newspapers, (2). Review documents (Regional Regulations, Government Regulations, etc.), (3). Focus Group Discussion (FGD), and (4) In-depth Interviews.

IDI Kalimantan Timur in 2017 was 72.86, on a scale of 0 to 100. This number has decreased compared to the IDI 2016 number of 73.64. The achievement of Kalimantan Timur's democratic performance is still in the "medium" category. The classification of democratic levels is grouped into three categories, namely "Good" (index more than 80), "medium" (index between 60 - 80), and "Bad" (index less than 60)

Changes in the number of Kalimantan Timur IDI from 2016 to 2017 were influenced by three aspects of democracy, namely (1) Civil liberties which rose 5.08 points (from 78.25 to 83.33), (2) Rights-political rights dropped 11.18 points ( from 78.35 to 67.18), and (3) Democratic institutions which rose 8.36 points (from 60.36 to 68.72)
