During August 2019, there was a deflation of -0.19 percent in Kalimantan Timur

Abstract

From 82 national CPI monitoring cities, in August 2019 there were 44 cities experiencing inflation and 38 other cities experiencing deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Kudus City by 0.82 percent and the lowest occurred in Tasikmalaya City by 0.04 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in Bau-Bau City by -2.10 percent and the lowest in Palopo City by -0.02 percent.

Kalimantan Timur Province (Samarinda City and Balikpapan City) in August 2019 deflation occurred -0.19 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 1.69 percent and year-on-year inflation rate of 1.74 percent.

In August 2019 there was 0.07 percent inflation in Samarinda City and deflation of -0.52 percent in Balikpapan City.

Deflation in Kalimantan Timur was affected by a decrease in the price index in the transportation and communication group which experienced deflation of -1.24 percent and the foodstuffs group of -0.37 percent. Meanwhile the other five groups experienced inflation, namely the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group by 0.32 percent, the recreation and sports education group with inflation by 0.24 percent followed by the clothing group by 0.23 percent followed by the health group by 0 , 16 percent and the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0.03 percent.
