During May 2021, there was inflation of 0.23 percent in Kalimantan Timur

Abstract

  • In May 2021, of the 90 municipalities monitored by the national CPI, 78 municipalities experienced inflation and 12 other municipalities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Manokwari at 1.82 percent and the lowest occurred in Tembilahan at 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Timika at -0.83 percent and the lowest at -0.02 percent occurred in Palembang.
  • Kalimantan Timur Province (Samarinda Municipality and Balikpapan Municipality Combined) in May 2021 saw inflation of 0.23 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 0.92 percent and a year-on-year inflation rate of 1.07 percent.
  • In May 2021 inflation for Samarinda Municipality was 0.23 percent and in Balikpapan Municipality was 0.25 percent.
  • Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in several indexes of expenditure groups, namely: transportation group by 0.73 percent; followed by personal care and other services group by 0.50 percent; food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.48 percent; recreation, sports and culture group by 0.29 percent; household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance group by 0.09 percent; and the health group by 0.05 percent. The group that experienced a decrease in the index was the clothing and footwear group by -0.55 percent. Meanwhile, the other 4 groups tended to be stable compared to the previous month, namely the housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups; food and beverage/restaurant supply group; information, communication, and financial services groups and education groups.
