Abstract

  • The export value of Kalimantan Timur Province in March 2023 was recorded at US$2.85 billion, an increase of 7.45 percent compared to the export value in February 2023. When compared to March 2022, the export value fell by 6.43%.
  • Non-oil and gas exports in March 2023 were recorded at US$2.62 billion, an increase of 6.72 percent compared to February 2023.
  • Cumulatively, the oil and gas export value of Kalimantan Timur Province during January-March 2023 reached US$688.36 million, an increase of 32.58 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, the non-oil and gas export value reached US$7.26 billion.
  • The highest increase in the value of non-oil and gas exports in March 2023 compared to February 2023 occurred in the mineral fuel goods category which increased by US$240.63 million (12.03 percent), while the largest decrease in value occurred in the fat/oil goods group of US$79.28 million (24.68 percent).
  • By sector, during the January-March 2023 period, Kalimantan Timur Province's non-oil and gas exports increased by 29.30 percent compared to the same period in 2022. The increase was contributed by an increase in exports of mining products by 37.72 percent, and exports of agricultural products by 4,220.25 percent.
  • The destination country with the largest non-oil and gas export value in March 2023 was to China with a value of US$857.56 million, followed by India with US$407.47 million and Japan with US$231.48 million, with the contribution of the three of them reaching 57.72 percent. Meanwhile, exports to ASEAN and the European Union amounted to US$492.32 million and US$74.41 million respectively.
  • According to the port of origin of the goods, the largest exports for Kalimantan Timur Province in March 2023 came from the Port of Samarinda with a value of US$836.00 million, followed by the Port of Balikpapan with US$661.40 million, and the Port of Tanjung Bara with US$433.94 million.
  • The import value of Kalimantan Timur Province in March 2023 was recorded at US$451.22 million, an increase of 28.31 percent compared to the import value in February 2023. When compared to the March 2022 import value, it experienced a decrease of 13.63 percent.
  • The March 2023 oil and gas import value was US$325.79 million, an increase of 47.75 percent compared to the February 2023 import value, whereas when compared to the March 2022 import value it decreased by 15.46 percent.
  • The non-oil and gas import value in March 2023 was US$125.43 million, or decreased by 4.38 percent compared to the import value in February 2023, whereas when compared to the March 2022 import value it decreased by 8.47 percent.
  • In March 2023, the largest percentage decrease in imports of non-oil and gas goods was in the category of machine goods and mechanical equipment which experienced a 10.48 percent decrease. On the other hand, the largest percentage increase in imports of non-oil and gas goods occurred in the electrical machinery category, which rose 22.21 percent.
  • The three largest suppliers of non-oil and gas imported goods during January–March 2023 were China at US$97.26 (24.26 percent), South Korea at US$44.60 million (11.22 percent), and the United States at US$43.77 million. (11.01 percent). Non-oil and gas imports from ASEAN amounted to US$72.78 million (18.31 percent) and the European Union amounted to US$65.27 million (16.42 percent).
  • According to the category of goods usage, the import value from January to March 2023 compared to the same period in the previous year, there was an increase in the value of imports of raw/auxiliary materials by 23.05 percent, consumer goods increased by 18.70 percent, but capital goods decreased by 4. 91 percent.
  • Kalimantan Timur Province's trade balance in March 2023 experienced a surplus of US$2.40 billion. The non-oil and gas sector had a surplus of US$2.50 billion, while the oil and gas sector had a deficit of US$98.43 million.
