Abstract

The Farmer's Terms of Trade (NTP) for May 2024 experienced a slight decline due to a decrease in the Index of Prices Received by Farmers (It) by 1.55%, while the Index of Prices Paid by Farmers (Ib) only decreased by 0.35%. This indicates that farmers' purchasing power has slightly weakened compared to the previous month.
In May 2024, only one subsector experienced an increase in NTP, namely the livestock subsector with a growth of 1.48%. On the other hand, four subsectors experienced declines: food crops (-1.84%), horticulture (-1.24%), estate crops (-1.70%), and fisheries (-0.11%).
The overall Farmer's Household Income (NTUP) for May 2024 was 141.22, representing a decrease of 1.63% compared to April 2024. Similar to the NTP, NTUP also showed a mixed performance across subsectors. The livestock subsector experienced an increase of 1.30%, while the remaining subsectors experienced declines: food crops (-2.12%), horticulture (-1.76%), estate crops (-2.16%), and fisheries (-0.83%).
