During October 2019, there was a deflation of -0.37 percent in Kalimantan Timur

Abstract

  • Out of 82 national CPI monitoring cities, in October 2019 there were 43 cities experiencing inflation and 39 other cities experiencing deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Manado Municipality by 1.22 percent and the lowest occurred in Pematang Siantar Municipality, Tual and Ternate by 0.01 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in Balikpapan Municipality by -0.69 percent and the lowest in Palopo Municipality by 0.01 percent.

  • The Province of Kalimantan Timur (the Municipality of Samarinda and Balikpapan Municipality) in October 2019 experienced deflation of 0.37 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 1.03 percent and a year-on-year inflation rate of 1.51 percent.

  • In October 2019 there was deflation of -0.12 percent in Samarinda Municipality and deflation of -0.69 percent in Balikpapan Municipality.

  • Deflation in Kalimantan Timur was influenced by a decrease in the price index in the foodstuffs group which experienced deflation by -1.28 percent followed by the transportation and communication group which experienced deflation by -0.96 percent, the recreation and sports education group by -0.07 percent and health group with deflation of -0.05 percent. Meanwhile the other 3 groups experienced inflation, namely the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group by 0.26 percent then the clothing group by 0.17 percent and the housing, water, electriMunicipality, gas and fuel group by 0.01 percent.
