During October 2020, there was deflation of -0.18 percent in Kalimantan Timur

Abstract

  • In October 2020, out of 90 cities with national CPI monitoring, 66 cities experienced inflation and 24 other cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sibolga with 1.04 percent and the lowest occurred in Jakarta, Cirebon, Bekasi and Jember with 0.01 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Manokwari at -1.81 percent and the lowest at -0.02 percent occurred in Surabaya.
  • Kalimantan Timur Province (Combined Kota Samarinda and Kota Balikpapan) in October 2020 experienced deflation of -0.18 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 0.16 percent and a year-on-year inflation rate of 0.60 percent.
  • In October 2020, there was deflation for Samarinda City of -0.21 percent and -0.17 percent in Balikpapan City.
  • Deflation occurred due to a decrease in prices as indicated by the decline in several indexes for the expenditure group, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by -0.51 percent; followed by the transportation group by -0.30 percent; equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance group and personal care and other services group each by -0.07 percent; the information, communication, and financial services group by -0.05 percent and the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group by -0.04 percent. Meanwhile, 2 groups showed an increase in the index, namely the health group by 0.06 percent and the clothing and footwear group by 0.01 percent. Groups that showed a stable index compared to the previous month were the recreation, sports and culture group; education group and food and beverage / restaurant supply group.
