Abstract

  • In August 2020, of the 90 cities that monitored the national CPI, 37 cities experienced inflation and 53 other cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Meulaboh with 0.88 percent and the lowest occurred in Batam, Kediri and Kotamobagu with 0.02 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Kupang at -0.92 percent and the lowest at -0.01 percent occurred in Sibolga, Tembilahan, Bekasi and Banyuwangi.
  • Kalimantan Timur Province (Combined Kota Samarinda and Kota Balikpapan) in August 2020 experienced deflation of -0.17 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 0.75 percent and year-on-year inflation rate of 0.62 percent.
  • In August 2020 there was deflation for Samarinda City of -0.16 percent and in Balikpapan City of -0.21 percent.
  • Deflation occurred due to a decrease in prices as indicated by a fall in several indexes for the expenditure group, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by -0.99 percent followed by the transportation group by -0.45 percent and the information, communication and financial services group by - 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, other groups that showed an increase in the index were the personal care and other services group by 2.21 percent; the education group of 0.20 percent; equipment, tools and household routine maintenance group by 0.18 percent; the health group by 0.08 percent; the recreation, sports and culture group by 0.07 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.06 percent; the clothing and footwear group by 0.04 percent and the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group by 0.01 percent.
