Abstract

The Population Census is a mandate of Law No. 16 of 1997 concerning Statistics, which is held every ten years in years ending in zero. The 2020 Population Census is the seventh population census since Indonesia's independence.
For the first time in the history of the population census in Indonesia, SP2020 uses a combination method, namely by utilizing Population Administration data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration of the Ministry of Home Affairs as the basis for implementing SP2020. This is designed and implemented as an effort to realize "ONE INDONESIAN POPULATION DATA".
SP2020 recorded that the population of Kalimantan Timur in September 2020 was 3.77 million people. Since 2010, the population of Kalimantan Timur has increased by around 737,552 people, or an average of 73,755 people every year. Population growth in the 2010-2020 period is 2.13 percent.
Of the 3.77 million inhabitants of Kalimantan Timur, 89.56 percent or around 3.37 million people live according to their KK / KTP. Meanwhile, 10.44 percent or as many as 393,231 other residents did not live in accordance with their KK / KTP.
Kalimantan Timur is still in the demographic bonus period, which is indicated by 70.28 percent of the population in the productive age in 2020.
Kalimantan Timur has not yet entered the era of an aging population, which is indicated by the percentage of the elderly population that reached 6.22 percent in 2020, less than 10 percent.
SP2020 recorded that the total male population in Kalimantan Timur was 1,961,634, or 52.09 percent of the population of Kalimantan Timur. Meanwhile, the total female population in Kalimantan Timur is 1,804,405 people, or 47.91 percent of the population of Kalimantan Timur. From those two information, the sex ratio of the population of Kalimantan Timur is 108.71, which means that there are 109 men per 100 women in Kalimantan Timur in 2020.
The distribution of the population of Kalimantan Timur in 2020 is still concentrated in Samarinda Municipality. With an area of only 0.56 percent of the Kalimantan Timur region, Samarinda Municipality is inhabited by 827,994 residents or 21.99 percent of the population of Kalimantan Timur. The second largest population distribution is in Kutai Kartanegara Regency with a population of 729,382 people, or 19.37 percent.
