Abstract

  • The export value of Kalimantan Timur Province in May 2023 was recorded at US$2.25 billion, or decreased by 6.57 percent compared to the April 2023 export value. When compared to May 2022, the export value fell by 21.14%.
  • Non-oil and gas exports in May 2023 were recorded at US$1.97 billion, or decreased by 11.06 percent compared to April 2023.
  • Cumulatively, the oil and gas export value of Kalimantan Timur Province during January-May 2023 reached US$1.16 billion, an increase of 21.75 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, the non-oil and gas export value reached US$11.44 billion.
  • The biggest decrease in the value of non-oil and gas exports in May 2023 compared to April 2023 occurred in the mineral fuel goods category, which fell by US$238.59 million (12.40 percent), while the largest increase in value occurred in the fertilizer goods category, which amounted to US$9.40 million (17 .35 percent).
  • By sector, during the January-May 2023 period Kalimantan Timur Province's non-oil and gas exports increased by 2.35 percent compared to the same period in 2022. The increase was contributed by an increase in exports of mining products by 3.63 percent, and exports of agricultural products by 1,147.51 percent.
  • The destination country with the largest non-oil and gas export value in May 2023 was to China with a value of US$630.76 million, followed by India with US$218.95 million and Japan with US$181.95 million, with the contribution of the three of them reaching 52.40 percent. Meanwhile, exports to ASEAN and the European Union amounted to US$521.30 million and US$54.70 million respectively.
  • According to the port of origin, Kalimantan Timur Province's largest exports in May 2023 came from the Port of Samarinda with a value of US$738.87 million, followed by the Port of Balikpapan with US$457.83 million, and the Port of Bontang with a value of US$415.21 million.
  • The import value of Kalimantan Timur Province in May 2023 was recorded at US$525.49 million, an increase of 11.29 percent compared to the April 2023 import value. Compared to the May 2022 import value, it experienced an increase of 140.29 percent.
  • The May 2023 oil and gas import value was US$395.75 million, an increase of 8.48 percent compared to the April 2023 import value, whereas when compared to the May 2022 import value it experienced an increase of 341.40 percent.
  • The non-oil and gas import value in May 2023 was US$129.74 million, an increase of 20.82 percent compared to the April 2023 import value, whereas when compared to the May 2022 import value it experienced an increase of 0.55 percent.
  • In May 2023, the largest percentage decrease in imports of non-oil and gas goods was in the fertilizer goods category which experienced a decrease of 52.39 percent. On the other hand, the highest percentage increase in imports of non-oil and gas goods occurred in the category of mineral fuel goods which rose 2,336.98 percent.
  • The three largest suppliers of non-oil and gas imported goods during January–May 2023 were China at US$130.55 (20.57 percent), the United States at US$76.13 million (12.00 percent), and South Korea at US$65.81 million. (10.37 percent). Non-oil and gas imports from ASEAN amounted to US$102.43 million (16.14 percent) and the European Union amounted to US$130.19 million (20.51 percent).
  • According to the category of goods used, the import value from January to May 2023 compared to the same period in the previous year, there was an increase in the import value of raw/auxiliary materials by 37.85 percent, consumption goods increased by 5.67 percent, and capital goods increased by 4. 83 percent.
  • Kalimantan Timur Province's trade balance in May 2023 experienced a surplus of US$1.72 billion. The non-oil and gas sector had a surplus of US$1.84 billion, while the oil and gas sector had a deficit of US$117.26 million.
