Abstract

The Human Development Index (HDI) of Kalimantan Timur in 2008 was 74.52 and has increased compared to the previous year (73.77).

When compared with other provinces in Indonesia, the relative position of the province of Kalimantan Timur has not changed its rank, which is still in the position of rank 5.

In terms of districts / cities in Kalimantan Timur in 2008, the highest HDI in sequence was Balikpapan at 77.31 followed by Samarinda (76.12); Bontang city (76.08) and Tarakan city (75.92). Meanwhile, the three lowest ranking districts with the lowest HDI; namely Tana Tidung regency (70.68), East Kutai (70.84) and Malinau (71.78)

In 2008, the Bulungan regency (calculated separately from the Summit) achieved an HDI value of 74.30, an area that had rapid progress in human development compared to other districts / cities as indicated by the shortfall reduction value of 3.61, followed by Balikpapan (2, 94) and Paser district (2.79).
