Abstract

  • The economy of East Kalimantan, based on the GDP at current prices in the third quarter of 2014, reached Rp 110.6 trillion (including oil and gas) or Rp 75.9 trillion (excluding oil and gas). Meanwhile, the GDP at constant 2000 prices was Rp 31.4 trillion (including oil and gas) or Rp 23.4 trillion (excluding oil and gas).
  • The economy of East Kalimantan in the third quarter of 2014 compared to the second quarter of 2014 (q-to-q) grew by a positive 1.05 percent, after experiencing a contraction of negative 0.05 percent in the previous quarter. The growth rate in the third quarter of 2014 compared to the same quarter of the previous year (y-on-y) was a positive 3.18 percent, higher than the growth in the third quarter of 2013, which was 2.08 percent.
  • Based on the review of GDP performance by industry (q-to-q) in the third quarter of 2014, almost all economic sectors experienced an increase compared to the previous quarter, except for the agriculture sector and the manufacturing sector, which contracted by negative 0.11 percent and negative 0.35 percent, respectively. The performance of the mining sector, the leading sector of East Kalimantan's economy, grew positively by 1.06 percent, driven by an increase in the oil and gas mining sub-sector by 0.95 percent and the non-oil and gas mining sub-sector (coal + gold) by 1.07 percent.
  • From the perspective of usage, in the third quarter of 2014, the export component grew positively (q-to-q) by 0.95 percent. When calculated, the trade balance in East Kalimantan in the third quarter of 2014 experienced a surplus of Rp 61.6 trillion. Specifically, Government Consumption Expenditure in the third quarter of 2014 grew by a positive 5.08 percent.
