Abstract

Of the 82 cities monitoring national CPI, in March 2019 as many as 51 cities experienced inflation and 31 other cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Ambon Municipality at 0.86 percent and the lowest occurred in the cities of Tangerang and Bekasi at 0.01 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in Tual Municipality at -3.03 percent and the lowest in Palembang Municipality, Batam and Sampit, which were -0.01 percent respectively.
  • Kalimantan Timur Province (Combined Samarinda Municipality and Balikpapan Municipality) Deflation occurred in March 2019 by -0.18 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 0.36 percent and year-on-year inflation rate of 2.99 percent.
  • In March 2019 there was a deflation of -0.11 percent in Samarinda Municipality and deflation of -0.28 percent in Balikpapan Municipality.
  • Deflation in Kalimantan Timur was influenced by a decline in the price index in the foodstuffs group by -1.27 percent, followed by the health group at -0.22 percent, the transportation and communication group experienced deflation of -0.19 percent and housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel deflation of -0.04 percent. Meanwhile, the other 3 groups experienced inflation, namely the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group by 0.45 percent then the education, recreation and sports group by 0.31 percent and the clothing group by 0.14 percent.
