Abstract

The export value of Kalimantan Timur Province in January 2024 was recorded at US$1,946.46 million, a decrease of 9.89 percent compared to the export value in December 2023. The oil and gas (migas) exports in January 2024 amounted to US$300.21 million, an increase of 55.90 percent compared to December 2023. In contrast, non-oil and gas (nonmigas) exports were recorded at US$1,646.26 million, a decrease of 16.32 percent.
  • Nonmigas exports contributed 84.58 percent, while 15.42 percent was contributed by migas exports. In terms of commodity groups, the largest increase in nonmigas exports in January 2024 compared to December 2023 occurred in the category of animal/vegetable fats and oils, which increased by US$123.25 million (63.03 percent). Conversely, the largest decrease was observed in the category of mineral fuels, amounting to US$396.21 million (-24.43 percent).
  • In January 2024, China was the main destination for exports, accounting for the largest share with an export value of US$580.44 million (35.26 percent), followed by India with US$266.77 million (16.20 percent), and Japan with US$155.74 million (9.46 percent).
  • By sector, the decline in nonmigas export value in January 2024 was attributed to a 24.43 percent decrease in the export value of mining products. Conversely, the export value of industrial and agricultural products increased.
  • The three ports contributing the most to the total export value of Kalimantan Timur Province in January 2024 were Balikpapan Port (US$634.24 million), Samarinda Port (US$434.71 million), and Tanjung Bara Port (US$380.60 million).
  • The import value of Kalimantan Timur Province in January 2024 was recorded at US$426.53 million, an increase of 1.54 percent compared to the import value in December 2023. Nonmigas imports were recorded at US$131.54 million, an increase of 20.24 percent compared to December 2023. In contrast, migas imports in January 2024 were recorded at US$295.00 million, a decrease of 5.04 percent.
  • In January 2024, the largest percentage increase in nonmigas goods imports was observed in various chemical products, which increased by 487.26 percent. Conversely, the deepest percentage decrease in nonmigas goods imports occurred in the category of organic chemical products, amounting to 26.71 percent.
  • Looking at their contribution to the total nonmigas imports in January 2024, the largest contributions from the countries of origin were dominated by China with US$36.11 million and a share of 27.45 percent, followed by the United States with US$16.08 million and a share of 12.23 percent, and Germany with US$15.62 million and a share of 11.88 percent.
  • By commodity usage groups, in January 2024, consumer goods and capital goods experienced increases of 15.86 percent and 33.62 percent, respectively, compared to the previous month. In contrast, raw material/auxiliary groups experienced a decrease of 1.77 percent.
  • The trade balance of Kalimantan Timur Province in January 2024 experienced a surplus of US$1,519.93 million. The nonmigas sector recorded a surplus of US$1,514.72 million, while the migas sector recorded a surplus of US$5.21 million.
