Abstract

The number of poor people (population below the poverty line) in Kalimantan Timur in March 2011 was 247.90 thousand (6.77 percent). Compared to the poor population in March 2010 which amounted to 243, thousand (7.66 percent), meaning the number of poor people rose by 4.9 thousand.

During the period March 2010-March 2011, the poor population in urban areas rose by 12.9 thousand people and in rural areas decreased by 8.0 thousand people.
