Abstract

The number of poor people (population below the poverty line) in East Kalimantan in March 2014 was 253.60 thousand (6.42 percent). In September 2013 the poor population totaled 248.69 thousand (6.38 percent), meaning the number of poor people increased 4.91 thousand people (0.04 percent).

During the period September 2013 - March 2014, the poor population in urban areas rose by 1.8 thousand people (0.02 percent) and in rural areas rose by 3.11 thousand people (0.09 percent).

In March 2014, the number of poor people living in rural areas was 155.71 thousand people (10.33 percent), more than those who lived in urban areas as much as 97.89 thousand people (4.01 percent).

During September 2013 - March 2014, the Poverty Line (GK) increased by 3.27 percent, from Rp. 417,902 per capita per month in September 2013 to Rp. 431,560 per capita per month in March 2014. In the same period the National GK was Rp. 292,951 per capita per month (September 2013) and increased to Rp. 302,735, - per capita per month (March 2014).

In the period September 2013 - March 2014, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) decreased. The Poverty Depth Index dropped from 1.25 in September 2013 to 1.08 in the March 2014 situation. Likewise, the Poverty Severity Index dropped from 0.39 to 0.28 in the same period.
